What is the Best Month for Senior Photos in Michigan?
Deciding when you should take your senior pics is a big deal, and each month has it's pros and cons. In Michigan, where ABP is based, seniors usually get their photos taken in the summer before their senior year- so if you are the class of 2027, you'd have them taken in the summer or early fall of 2026- usually between June and October.
Early Summer: June
In Alpena, or northern Michigan in general, the weather is mild (not too hot!). The sun stays up almost until 10pm, and the leaves have a fresh, new spring green hue. Some of the early summer flowers are just starting to bloom, and the fields and lawns are soft and very green. The downsides: if you want sunset, you have to shoot faily late in the evening, many of the summer wildflowers aren't blooming yet, spring pollen can be heavy, and if you want to get in the lake or river.. well, Lake Huron hasn't warmed up fullly yet.
Mid-summer Senior Photos: July and August
The peak of summer is great for wildflowers (August sunflowers!) and the mosquitos tend to fall back mid to late July. However, summer heats up and by the beginning of August, we get some hot days and humid afternoons. If you want to wear fall clothes in your senior pictures, June or September are great for that. The foliage is peak, and by late August field grasses and flowers are tall, and fading to more muted hues. July and August book up first and fast, though. If you want mid-summer photos, book them soon.
Fall Photoshoots: September and October
If you are planning to wear jeans and sweaters and all your cozy layers, plan for a fall shoot. Even if your yearbook photo is due to the school in late fall (Alpena is usually due early November), ABP can do a rush delivery so you get your senior photos in the season you prefer. Other than the weather, you might have access to your senior team uniforms, and school facilities in the fall, and taking senior photos during senior school year is an experience many seniors enjoy.
